Scholarships
The Division of Music also offers several scholarship awards to entering freshmen and current music majors. These undergraduate scholarships are a form of financial aid that help students pay for their education. Unlike student loans, scholarships do not have to be repaid. In order to receive and maintain an award, a student must plan to enroll as a fulltime major in Music or be a current major in the Division.
Scholarships awards are granted on the basis of outstanding talent, academic achievement (a 3.0 GPA minimum required), and demonstrated potential for success in the program. Awards from the Division of Music are not made on the basis of financial need; however, the receipt of a scholarship from the Division may affect a student’s overall financial aid package. Recipients of other forms of financial aid who also receive a scholarship from the Division should check with the WVU Office of Financial aid to discuss the parameters of their complete financial aid package.
The Fine Arts Scholarship includes a complete in-state or out-of-state tuition waiver with the expectation of consistent participation in various areas of the Division.
A number of cash awards are also available to entering freshmen and current music majors. All cash awards are applied toward the recipient’s tuition balance with any excess amount being distributed to the student to use for other expenses associated with the cost of their education at WVU.
To be considered for an award, a student must complete the Enrollment/Scholarship Application Form, have a teacher submit a Teacher Recommendation Form, and schedule an audition with the Division of Music.
